Dream Big & Never Give Up

I have always loved hearing stories of people overcoming almost insurmountable odds. The human spirit is intangible and should never be doubted. How many times have we gotten up after we were knocked down? How many times have been told no? Failure is a part of life. I am sure you already know this from your U.S. History classes, but it’s worth a refresher. I’d like to share with you a “Portrait of an Achiever.”

1831: He failed in business and declared bankruptcy.

1832: He is defeated in his run for the Illinois State Legislature.

1834: He failed in business again…and had to declare bankruptcy again!

1835: His sweetheart, Ann Rutledge, dies.

1836: He suffered a nervous breakdown.

1838: He is defeated in the election for the Illinois House Speaker.

1843: He is defeated in his run for the nomination of U.S. Congress.

1846: He is elected to the U.S. Congress. (finally!)

1848: He loses the bid for re-nomination.

1855: He is defeated in his run for U.S. Senate.

1856: He is defeated in his run for the nomination of U.S. Vice-President.

1858: He is defeated again in his run for U.S. Senate.

1960: ABRAHAM LINCOLN IS ELECTED THE 16th PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

“You cannot fail…unless you quit.” – Abraham Lincoln

Isn’t it amazing what types of successes we can achieve when we don’t give up? I have a philosophy that the universe is always testing us to see what our commitment level is. The bigger our dreams are, the stronger the tests are. What is the lesson?

DREAM BIG and NEVER GIVE UP!

Failure just shows us what not to do and be.
Failure is required for humility to educate.
Failure is a prerequisite to greater callings.
Failure is a welcome motivational pain in the ass.
